Square Enix Implements AI for QA Testing in Game Development

Japanese gaming giant Square Enix is set to revolutionize game development by implementing AI for QA testing. With plans to automate 70% of QA and debugging tasks by the end of 2027, Square Enix aims to establish a competitive advantage in the industry.

Through a joint research effort with the Matsuo-Iwasawa lab, Square Enix will leverage generative AI to identify bugs, crashes, logic errors, and bottlenecks early in development. This shift towards automation technology will not only improve the efficiency of QA operations but also free up human testers to focus on player experience and overall game quality.

The project, titled ‘Joint Development of Game QA Automation Technology Using Generative AI’, involves a team of researchers and engineers working towards automating regression, CI, performance, and cross-platform checks at scale. By integrating AI into the QA process, Square Enix hopes to scale quality without slowing down release schedules.

By relying on generative AI to handle the bulk of debugging and QA work, Square Enix aims to lead the way in game testing and refinement. This innovative approach demonstrates the company’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to stay ahead in the competitive gaming market.
