NetEase Continues Downsizing as Another Studio, Bad Brain Game Studios, Closes Doors

In a recent development in the gaming industry, NetEase has once again made headlines for the closure of another game development studio. This time, Bad Brain Game Studios, founded by former Ubisoft developers, including those who worked on Watch Dogs: Legion, will be shutting down on November 17th.

The closure of Bad Brain Game Studios comes as a result of the studio being unable to acquire necessary funding after NetEase pulled the plug. This marks the third studio closure by NetEase in recent weeks, with Sandfall Interactive being one of the previous casualties.

Bad Brain Games was known for working on a game codenamed ‘Project X’, which would have seen a group of kids from the late 80s or early 90s take on various mysteries, like an invasion of alien spiders. Unfortunately, this project will likely never see the light of day.

Led by Sean Crooks, a former Ubisoft developer who served as Lead Producer on Watch Dogs: Legion, Bad Brain Game Studios had a promising start but ultimately could not sustain itself without adequate funding.

NetEase’s decision to disband yet another studio has raised concerns within the gaming community about the stability of game development studios and the impact of funding decisions on creative projects. As the gaming industry continues to evolve, it is crucial for developers to secure stable funding sources to ensure the success of their projects.
