Florida Man Accused of Opening Fire at Memorial Service for Homicide Victim, Killing 1, Arrested
A memorial service in Florida for a homicide victim turned into a murder scene when a gunman opened fire on the mourners, killing one. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement began investigating on November 1 after the Gretna Police Department asked the agency to investigate a shooting that occurred at a memorial service.
Police say the victims had gathered to remember the victim of a separate homicide before the attack. The suspect, a 40-year-old man from Gretna, was arrested on one count of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement confirmed that one victim was run over by a vehicle attempting to flee the scene.
Investigators earlier said that a group of suspects approached the crowd and opened fire, resulting in one death and multiple injuries. The suspect who surrendered to authorities following the shooting is currently in custody. The investigation into the motive behind the attack is ongoing.
