GTA Publisher Accused of Union Busting After Mass Firings
A British trade union group, the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), has accused the publisher of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) of union busting after reportedly firing over 30 employees across offices in the UK and Canada. The accusations come after the employees, who were allegedly members of the IWGB Game Workers Union Discord channel, were let go by the company.
The IWGB has labeled the firings as a blatant and ruthless act of union busting, with IWGB president Alex Marshall condemning the publisher’s actions. The company, however, has defended its decision by stating that the employees were terminated for gross misconduct and leaking confidential information.
Despite the company’s claims, the IWGB is adamant in its stance that the firings were a deliberate attempt to prevent unionization within the company. The trade union group has vowed to pursue legal action against the publisher for what they perceive as anti-union behavior.
As the controversy continues to unfold, unions have launched street protests against the publisher, demanding justice for the fired employees and calling for greater transparency in labor practices within the gaming industry. The situation highlights the ongoing tension between workers’ rights and corporate interests in the digital entertainment sector.
