Square Enix Announces Mass Layoffs in US and Europe Restructuring

Square Enix, the Japanese video game giant behind popular titles like Final Fantasy, has announced mass layoffs as part of a restructuring plan in its US and Europe offices. The company is undergoing a fundamental restructuring of its overseas publishing organization, which will result in job cuts across various departments.

The restructuring effort is aimed at streamlining the business and consolidating development work in Japan. Nearly all areas of the Western business are affected by the latest round of layoffs, with employees in Europe and the US facing job cuts.

According to reports, over 100 individuals may be impacted by the layoffs, with roles in IT, marketing, publishing, sales, QA, and business planning being affected. The company’s London office alone has almost 140 employees at risk of being laid off.

This move comes as Square Enix looks to become more agile and lean in its operations. The extent of the cuts and the specific details of the restructuring plan will be shared with staff at a later date.
